Ghost Rider is actually one of the more noteworthy characters to be left out of the MCU, especially now that Charlie Cox and Daredevil have joined the fold. While there has been a lot of rumors and whispers about the motorcyle-riding, flame-chain-wielding character eventually making an appearance, there hasn’t been a lot of concrete news.

Following up rumors that Marvel is close to finalizing a deal with an unnamed actor to star as Ghost Rider, Norman Reedus has been fueling a fan-driven campaign hoping that he might have some big news in the very near future. On Twitter, The Walking Dead star has been liking several posts asking Kevin Feige and Marvel to cast him in the Ghost Rider role. One post that Reedus liked was from someone responding to the comments that said he was “the only one” they wanted to see as Johnny Blaze. Another commenter said it was “going to be awesome” to see Reedus whipping the flaming chain around and taking down bad guys. The actor liked this tweet as well.
At the same time, Reedus hasn’t made any comments about the rumors, though he’s made it clear in the past that he’d like to take on the part. Fans have long felt as though he was the perfect choice because he’s a real-life motorcycle aficionado so he’d look perfectly natural on the character’s haunted hog. He’s also had plenty of experience dealing with supernatural drama thanks to his decade-long run as Daryl Dixon - who also speeds around the landscape on a motorcycle - on The Walking Dead. He even has some experience working with Marvel Studios thanks to his turn as the weapon maker Scud in the Wesley Snipes-starring Blade 2.
The first time that Ghost Rider made it to the big screen, Johnny Blaze was played by Nicholas Cage in a film that was widely panned by critics. It wasn’t particularly financially successful either. While Cage’s performance has gained a bit more appreciation as the years have gone on thanks to the film’s campiness, it’s expected that when Ghost Rider does officially join the MCU, he will be rebooted with a brand new actor.
